What is MCP, really?
MCP stands for “Model Context Protocol”. In short, it is a shared standard that lets an AI assistant access external data in a controlled way, much like BankPilot accesses your account through open banking.

What is stored, and what is not

The assistant never talks to your bank. In between sits BankPilot with the data you have already connected and structured.

All four functions are marked read-only and change nothing. There is deliberately no function that writes.
Sign-in and consent
The connection uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. The assistant receives a time-limited token for your account, never your password. Every grant appears separately in your settings, where you can revoke it.

What is MCP?

Do I need technical knowledge?
No. You add BankPilot as a connector in your assistant, sign in once and confirm the access.
Can the AI transfer money?
No. The access is strictly read-only. There is no function that could initiate a payment.
Can the AI change my bank account?
No. There is no write access, neither to your bank account nor to your data inside BankPilot.
Do I have to enable this?
No. It is entirely optional. Without your approval BankPilot works exactly as before.
Does it cost extra?
No. Access for AI assistants is included in your BankPilot plan.
What data can my assistant see?
The information BankPilot already keeps for you: transactions, categories, your rules, the payment monitor and an overview of connected accounts. Only what a given question needs is answered.
Is my data used to train AI models?
BankPilot keeps no separate copy of your data for this access and does not use your questions for training. What your AI provider does with the conversation follows that provider's own privacy terms, so please check them with the provider you use.
How do I disconnect again?
Your BankPilot settings list every connected application separately, and you can disconnect them there. The assistant loses access immediately afterwards.
