One question often decides whether you connect an account at all: can I get back out again? With any reputable provider the answer should be a clear yes. An account connection is reversible - you keep control.
Revoke access - two ways
A connection granted via open banking can usually be ended in two ways:
- At the provider: disconnect the link in the settings.
- At your bank: review and withdraw granted accesses in online banking.
Either way, no new data is retrieved.
Delete data, not just stop access
The second step matters: disconnecting should also allow deletion of the data already processed. That is part of your GDPR rights - see is account monitoring GDPR-compliant?. With BankPilot you can disconnect the bank link and request deletion of your data.
Why reversibility builds trust
A provider that makes leaving easy signals: your data is yours. This is closely tied to the question of how secure your bank details really are. A difficult or hidden exit, by contrast, is a warning sign.
Your benchmark before connecting
Before the first connection, check how the exit works: can access be disconnected easily? Is data deleted on request? With those points clear, you can try an account connection with peace of mind.
